Bay Area Bikes Opens New Bike Rental Location at Jack London Square

Oakland, CA – Visitors to Jack London Square now have yet another way to enjoy Oakland’s scenic waterfront.  Trusted local business Bay Area Bikes has now opened a bike rental location in Jack London Square.  The shop offers rentals of a variety of two-wheeled transports as well as bike parking and repair services.

“Oakland is our home a a huge part of who we are.  We couldn’t be happier to be in such a wonderful location as Jack London Square,” said Bay Area Bikes owner Gloria Barnhart.  “With ample space closed off to automobile traffic, the Square is a perfect location for visitors to take in the waterfront and explore the surrounding area by bike.”

Bay Area Bikes offers rentals of cruisers, recreation bikes, and tandems, as well as “tag-alongs” which allow children to join adults for a ride.  Serious cyclists visiting the area have the option of a performance road bike rental.  Bay Area Bikes’ expert staff will even provide counsel on local routes to make the rider’s adventure truly memorable.  The Bay Trail, a 290 mile scenic waterfront path that rings the San Francisco Bay, passes directly through Jack London Square, inviting visitors to take in the area’s natural history.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, an experienced mechanic will be available at the Jack London rental location.  Those working and living the Jack London Square area will be able to drop off their bikes and receive same-day repairs.  If serious work is required, staff will take the bike to Ba Area Bikes’ downtown Oakland headquarters and return it to Jack London Square for pick up.  The shop will also offer parking service for visitors who bring their own bicycles to the Square.  Bay Area Bikes provides valet services for most of the activities at the Square, such as the 4th of July festivities and fireworks.

Renting a bike is part of a full day of activities in Jack London Square.  Riders can complete their time on the waterfront by taking a cruise on the estuary with a kayak from California Canoe and Kayak or touring the historic USS Potomac.  A day of exercise requires some nourishment and, with a host of first class dining options, Jack London Square can provide.  Cocina Poblana, Miss Pearl’s Jam House, Scott’s Seafood, Il Pescatore, Kincaids, and Hahn’s Hibachi all offer delicious meals made with seasonal ingredients for the discerning diner.

“We’re excited to help provide yet another way for visitors to take advantage of this civic treasure,” said Jim Ellis, Managing Principal of Ellis Partners LLC which, along with Transbay Holdings LLC, is undertaking the area’s ongoing $375 million redevelopment.  “From fine cuisine to the great outdoors, Jack London Square has attractions to suit all tastes.”
