Oakland, CA – Holiday shopping has never been this much fun. For two nights this December, Jack London Square will offer a mall-ternative on the Oakland waterfront. On December 10th and 11th, the soon-to-open Jack London Market will host “Holiday Buy Night,” a festive night market featuring 75 local vendors, delicious foods, live entertainment, and activities for the whole family. Running from 5PM to 10PM, the event will celebrate all things Oakland with local artisans and merchants showcasing their wares. Holiday Buy Night follows the wildly popular Full Moon Buy Night event held this October.
“This is a community that knows the importance of buying locally,” said Jim Ellis, Managing Principal of Ellis Partners LLC which, along with Transbay Holdings LLC, is undertaking a $375 million redevelopment of Jack London Square. “Thriving small businesses and artisans are essential to a healthy local economy. We had such an overwhelming response to our previous night market; we couldn’t wait to hold another.”
Seventy-five local vendors will fill the 70,000 square-foot Jack London Market with stalls offering a cornucopia of local goods. Shoppers will see elegant hand-made jewelry, one-of-a-kind fine art, clever hats and accessories made from reused materials, safe eco-friendly toys and clothes for kids, note cards, soap, candies, silkscreened tees, and more. Jack London Square is partnering with Pro Arts, Oakland Grown, and “Oakland Unwrapped!” to bring together this group of unique merchants. The majority of Holiday Buy Nightvendors are local businesses and artists who lack a permanent retail space. For two exciting nights, they will be out in the community and shoppers will have the opportunity to interact directly with the craftspeople that make the goods on sale. Jack London Square will offer gift wrapping service to help shoppers ease into the holiday season.
Visitors to Holiday Buy Night will be treated to a jam-packed bill of live entertainment. A house DJ will set the mood for the evening, spinning holiday favorites. Live theatrical and musical performances as well as a “Kids’ Zone” will keep the whole family amused.
Holiday Buy Night shoppers will have no fear of going hungry. Jack London Square’s much-acclaimed restaurants, Bocanova, Cocina Poblana, Miss Pearl’s Jam House, Il Pescatore, Kincaid’s, and Scott’s will all be open throughout the evening. Inside the market building, stalls from Jack London Square restaurants will serve up delectable treats made especially for the occasion. Holiday Buy Night will also mark the debut of the East Bay Express’s new beer, “Bleeding Heart Lager.” The expert brewmasters of Linden Street Brewery will man the taps, pouring frothy pints.
